Breathe Well Essential Oil Blend

Essential Oils are made from Plants made by God. Pray to Jesus for your Healing!

Roll on the ribs and chest, on the back of the neck, or on to the bottom of feet for relief.

Essential Oils can ease symptoms of a cough or cold by soothing the throat, fighting bacteria, and reducing inflammation. Research has shown that using a nasal spray containing a blend of eucalyptus, peppermint, oregano, and rosemary extracts can improve a sore throat, hoarseness, and other cough-related symptoms.

Eucalyptus essential oil

Many people use this oil without realizing it. Over-the-counter vapor or chest rubs marketed to suppress coughs often contain eucalyptus oil. Or, they may include the oil’s key compound, called eucalyptol or cineole.

A study published in the Alternative Medicine Review found that eucalyptol has an antimicrobial effect and may fight off bacteria that cause illnesses. Eucalyptol may also help to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and ease muscle tension that can result from a cold or flu. Eucalyptus has decongestant and antispasmodic properties that help fight respiratory issues and helps to fight a cough. Eucalyptus essential oil can be used to calm a cough in several ways. A person may want to try:

  • adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil and rubbing the mixture onto the chest and throat
  • diluting eucalyptus oil in boiling water and inhaling the steam.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Helichrysum is an extremely versatile oil that is sometimes called the ‘super arnica’ of aromatherapy3 – a highly desirable attribute that makes it a most important inclusion in natural therapy first aid kits.

Throughout history, Helichrysum has been used to reduce inflammation within and on the body as well as a remedy for muscular spasms. Similar to most essential oils that show success in treating nerve pain and neuropathy, helichrysum has both analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, and is famous for being a potent & fast- acting pain reliever. The main compound in this oil is called Nerol, which has neuro-protective effects and reduces the loss of dopamine-producing neurons. Along with offering pain relief, this oil can help regenerate nerves by boosting the strength of the nervous system and studies show it likely has antispasmodic effects as well. This means that the use of this essential oil can help to stop or slow the transmission of parasympathetic nerve impulses in the body. Most people who suffer from nerve related disorders are familiar with the fact inflammation is a root cause of nerve pain. Thankfully, according to research, the antioxidant properties in this extract seem to play a large role in its reduction, including “inflammatory enzyme inhibition, free-radical scavenging activity and corticoid-like effects”.

Peppermint essential oil

Natural care products for respiratory conditions often contain this oil. Menthol is an extract of peppermint. When inhaled, it creates a cooling sensation that can soothe or numb a scratchy throat. A 2013 study suggests that when a healthy person uses peppermint oil, it can help to relax the muscles of the windpipe, known as the bronchial muscles. This may explain why this essential oil can ease breathing in people with coughs.

Peppermint essential oil can be used by:

  • diluting the oil in boiling water and inhaling the steam
  • adding the oil to a diffuser
  • using it in a blend of topical oils

Using peppermint essential oil may not be advisable in children younger than 8 or people who are pregnant.

Cajeput Essential Oil

Cajeput essential oil is made from distilled leaves and branches of cajeput trees.

Melaleuca Quinquenervia. An example of paper-like layers of the tree’s bark.

A subtype of the melaleuca tree, cajeput is indigenous to tropical regions in Australia and Southeast Asia. Cajeput also goes by the names of cajuput, kajuput, melaleuca cajuputi, and minyak kayu putih. The oil is primarily known for its antiseptic and analgesic qualities. It’s also considered an anti-inflammatory, which is sometimes used to help treat minor skin wounds, colds, and inflammatory skin diseases.

COVID-19 research and Cajeput

While researchers worldwide continue to test possible vaccines for COVID-19, there are some looking at other possible measures for preventing infection with the new coronavirus. One 2020 studyTrusted Source looked at the possibility of using cajeput oil to help prevent developing COVID-19. Researchers cited the oil’s established antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties as the source of their interest in studying cajeput for this virus specifically. The researchers then took extracts of cajeput oil to see how it would react in human proteins that are commonly attacked by this type of coronavirus. The results of the study revealed “strong” inhibitory activity. However, cajeput oil wasn’t conclusively shown to prevent the new coronavirus from entering the body. Additional studies are needed to help determine how people could take cajeput oil in such a manner, and how any potential effects could vary across different age groups and demographics.

Eucalyptus oil vs Cajeput?

Eucalyptus oil is a better known essential oil. Cajeput oil has a similar scent to eucalyptus, which has a strong medicinal aroma. Both are also used topically for antiseptic and analgesic purposes. Eucalyptus oil has also been clinically studied to help with coughs and colds, whereas more studies need to be conducted to prove the safety and efficacy of cajeput oil for the same purposes. Trying to decide between cajeput and eucalyptus oils? Both have similar effects and benefits, but eucalyptus is more widely available.

Ravintsara Essential Oil

Ravintsara is one of the strongest antiviral oils. It is excellent in fighting against viral infections, and is especially used to relieve colds and coughs, as well as for problems and infections of the respiratory system and other ailments. It provides excellent immune support during flu epidemics.

this essential oil is particularly high in 1,8-cineole which is known for its mucolytic and spasmolytic properties benefiting the respiratory tract. This compound has been shown to have therapeutic benefits for inflammatory airway conditions including chronic COPD and asthma. It is also high in monoterpenes, which have been shown to be strongly antiviral, antibacterial, and antiseptic.

Ravintsara has been used traditionally by the people of Madagascar for millennia. The name Ravintsara in Malagasy means “Good Leaf”, and has been used historically for treating colds, coughs, digestive disorders and epidemic infection. It assists the body in fighting off a disease in the acute stage of infection as well as effectively expelling long-standing phlegm from the lungs and aids in drying up mucus in the upper and lower airways. Once recovered from fighting an infectious disease, which can leave a body weak and depleted, Ravintsara can help support in revitalizing the Qi and Essence.

To be so strongly antiviral and antimicrobial, to have the strength to fight disease, and have the gentleness to help restore and replenish from a state of depletion is one of Ravintsara’s more unique qualities as a plant medicine. To effectively treat the acute, chronic, and restorative phases of infectious disease is atypical of a medicine.

Frankincense essential oil

Frankincense is derived from the trees of the genus Boswellia and is often used in incense and perfumes. It has traditionally been valued for its effect on the respiratory system, and has been used to treat coughs, catarrh, bronchitis, and asthma. Traditional medicine has used frankincense to treat bronchitis and asthma for centuries. Research suggests that its compounds may prevent the production of leukotrienes, which cause the bronchial muscles to constrict in asthma (18).

Frankincense may also affect Th2 cytokines, which can cause inflammation and mucus overproduction in people with asthma. In one small study, people who took a daily supplement of 500 mg boswellia extract in addition to their standard asthma treatment were able to take fewer inhalations of their regular medications during the 4-week study (18).

Additionally, when researchers gave people 200 mg of a supplement made from frankincense and the South Asian fruit bael (Aegle marmelos), they found that the supplement was more effective than a placebo at reducing asthma symptoms.

In another study, asthma symptoms in mice improved with boswellic acid, a component of frankincense resin (21).

Cedarwood Essential oil

To soothe asthma, coughing, congestion, a buildup of phlegm, and other respiratory discomforts that make it difficult to breathe easily, add a few drops of Cedarwood Essential Oil to a diffuser. Deeply inhaling its scent is known to facilitate relaxed respiration and to encourage sleep. To enhance the benefits of Cedarwood Oil, combine it with any of the following essential oils for a blend that is also aromatically appealing: Lavender, Frankincense, Rosemary, Juniper Berry, Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Cinnamon, Cypress, Neroli, Jasmine. A natural vapor rub can be made by diluting Cedarwood Oil in a carrier oil then massaging it into the chest and throat.

Oregano essential oil

Oregano essential oil contains a high level of a potent compound called carvacrol. Authors of a 2014 study found that carvacrol is a helpful antimicrobial agent that can fight off many types of germs. This oil could, therefore, help to treat viral or bacterial causes of a cough.

Thyme essential oil

Thyme essential oil also contains a high level of carvacrol. It may be helpful in eliminating or protecting against viruses and bacteria.

Geranium essential oil

A review of studies published in Complementary Medicine Research reported that a geranium extract called Pelargonium sidoides was an effective herbal cough treatment. The geranium essential oil also has a refreshing floral scent. A person may want to add it to a diffuser or a warm bath.

Cinnamon essential oil

While a person may not associate this spice with medicinal properties, authors of a 2017 study found that cinnamon may protect against germs that cause respiratory problems. Adding a few drops of cinnamon essential oil to a diffuser or including the oil in a topical blend may provide relief from a cough.

Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree oil (Melaleuca) can inhibit the growth of bad bacteria that cause sinus infections and respiratory issues. Crushed tea tree leaves have been inhaled by Australian Aborigines to treat coughs and colds, and inhaling tea tree oil may also help to ease the effects of a cough.

Clary Sage

Aromatherapy uses the power of scent to calm the mind and reduce feelings of anxiety. Your olfactory system directly affects the part of your brain that regulates emotion. That’s why what you smell can trigger memories and elicit feelings, both negative and positive.

When used in aromatherapy, clary sage oil can help alleviate stress by inducing a sense of well-being. One small studyTrusted Source done on women undergoing a stressful medical test indicated that when inhaled, clary sage essential oil elicited feelings of relaxation and helped to reduce blood pressure.

Camphor

Used in aromatherapy applications, Camphor Oil’s lasting scent, which is similar to that of menthol and can be described as cool, clean, clear, thin, bright, and piercing, is known to promote fuller and deeper breathing. For this reason, it is commonly used in vapor rubs for its ability to offer relief to a congested respiratory system by clearing the lungs and addressing symptoms of bronchitis and pneumonia.

Camphor oil is an ingredient in the following:

  • Vicks VapoRub
  • Tiger Balm
  • CBDfx CBD Muscle Balm
  • Biofreeze gel
  • Bengay
